Bajaj is reportedly preparing to expand its Avenger lineup with a new flagship model – the Avenger 400. As India’s favorite affordable cruiser brand, the Avenger series has long been appreciated for its low-slung design, comfortable ride, and accessible pricing. With the introduction of the more powerful 400cc variant, Bajaj aims to bring serious cruising capabilities to budget-conscious touring enthusiasts.
While official specifications are yet to be confirmed, expectations are high that the Avenger 400 will build on the brand’s strengths, combining cruiser comfort with the potent performance of Bajaj’s 373cc engine—currently seen in the Dominar 400.
Classic Cruiser Design with a Bold Update
The design of the Avenger 400 is expected to follow the timeless cruiser formula: a long wheelbase, low-slung stance, forward-set footpegs, and wide handlebars. This layout is ideal for laid-back riding, and Bajaj is likely to enhance the visual appeal with a beefier tank, LED lighting, and premium detailing.
Features such as a round LED headlamp, digital instrument cluster, alloy wheels, and a blacked-out engine casing could give the Avenger 400 a modern yet classic look—staying true to the DNA of the Avenger family while offering a more premium touch.
Powerful Heart: Likely Dominar-Derived Engine
The biggest change in the Avenger 400 will come under the tank. It’s expected to borrow the 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine from the Dominar 400. This engine is capable of producing 40 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque, delivering strong mid-range performance and smooth highway cruising.
Mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch, the powertrain promises a relaxed yet responsive ride. The torque-rich nature of the engine makes it suitable for long-distance touring, especially with a pillion and luggage.
If tuned slightly differently for cruiser characteristics—favoring low-end grunt and a smoother throttle response—the Avenger 400 could become one of the most comfortable highway motorcycles in its segment.
Touring Comfort with Cruiser Ergonomics
The Avenger series has always prioritized rider comfort, and the 400cc variant is likely to carry that tradition forward. A well-cushioned seat, forward-set controls, and a relaxed riding triangle ensure minimal fatigue on long rides. Expect the Avenger 400 to offer improved ride quality, thanks to a telescopic front fork and possibly a gas-charged twin shock absorber setup at the rear.
The suspension would be tuned for comfort, with longer travel to handle rough patches and highway expansion joints effectively. A cushy pillion seat or backrest may also be included for improved two-up touring comfort.
Modern Features Expected
While Avenger models have traditionally kept things simple, the 400cc variant may embrace more modern features, such as:
- LED headlamp and tail lamp
- Full digital instrument console
- Dual-channel ABS
- USB charging port
- Slipper clutch
- Side-stand engine cut-off
These features would help the Avenger 400 compete with other modern cruisers and enhance its appeal among younger riders looking for a tech-savvy machine.
Braking and Safety
A larger bike needs better stopping power, and the Avenger 400 is likely to be equipped with front and rear disc brakes supported by dual-channel ABS for safe braking in all conditions. Wider tires, especially at the rear, will also aid in road grip and stability at higher speeds.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline
While Bajaj hasn’t officially confirmed the launch date, the Avenger 400 is expected to arrive sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. In terms of pricing, it could be positioned slightly below the Dominar 400, possibly in the range of ₹2.2–2.4 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most affordable high-displacement cruisers in the Indian market.
